Maldon Minstrel Award

The Maldon Minstrel Award is a special event for budding singer-songwriters on Sunday afternoon, this song writing competition is for singer-songwriters to demonstrate their ability to tell a story with their own music in a purely acoustic venue.

Judging is by live performance in one of two concerts on the Sunday of the festival. Entrants will have 10 minutes to demonstrate their writing and performing skills to the judges.

More than one song is expected to be presented, although this is not obligatory. All songs must be original and written by the performer. Lyric sheets are not required and there is no entry fee.

The winner will receive a recording session courtesy of our sponsors at Bald Hill Studio in Carisbrook, and the Maldon Minstrel Award prize plaque.




How to Enter

Entry is at the Festival office from 9:30am on the Saturday of the festival and only the first twelve entries will be accepted. No entries will be accepted prior to that time.

 

2009 Minstrel Award Report

Once again this year, lively and varied performances taxed the judges, but in the end they were unanimous in their decision.

The 2009 Maldon Minstrel award winner is Sarah Wilkinson, a very talented 16 year old from Woodend.

Sarah received a recording session, courtesy of our generous sponsor, Bald Hill Music Studio.
